THE BULGARIAN ANTARCTIC INSTITUTE is a NATIONAL OPERATOR OF BULGARIAN ANTARCTIC ACTIVITIES
BAI was registered on 10.11.1993 in Sofia, Bulgaria. BAI is noncommercial organization and is working under patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria BAI has 105 members and 5 collective partners - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Academy of Medicine and the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria. The President of the Executive Board of the Institute is prof. Christo Pimpirev. The Bulgarian Antarctic Institute organizes annual Antarctic campaigns and operates the Bulgarian Antarctic base “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands. In the expeditions have specialists of different areas: geology, geomorphology, geochemistry, geophysics, meteorology, glaciology, biology, medicine and etc. These investigations are published in many scientific editions and books. BAI is in contact with the Antarctic Programs of Spain, Great Britain, Russia, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, South Korea and etc. BAI is a member of COMNAP (Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs), SCALOP (Standing Committee on Antarctic Logistics and Operations), EPB (European Polar Board) and SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research). |
